Greg is Honorary Professorial Fellow and consultant at the Centre for Eye Research Australia, Surgery and Ophthalmology of University of Melbourne, and several visiting professor roles. He has built a distinguished international reputation for fundamental research on the endothelium and cardiovascular pharmacology over 40 years, recording more than 300 publications which have attracted over 7000 citations. In early years he was a research scientist at Wellcome Research plc with Sir John Vane (Nobel Prize, 1982) and had a pioneering role in producing a heart drug now on the international market. In Australia his team invented another heart drug now in Phase 2 clinical trial. He is Associate Editor of 5 international journals, was elected FBPhS (2005), awarded the Michael Rand Medal for Pharmacology (2011) and Heart Foundation Medal (2015) for cardiovascular research. He has received several research prizes from the International Society for Hypertension and Cardiac Society ANZ. He continues drug discovery programs, including research into small molecule and gene therapies for corneal repair, fibrosis and retinal eye disease, as well as engineering cardiac tissue from stem cells.
